So you have been gaining weight and you like ice cream, pies, and soda.
Now your Doctor has tested your blood and the results show you have a high sugar
level and you need to be on a low sugar diet.
Americans have a love affair with sugar. Soda or soft drinks account
for 32% of the average Americans sugar intake. Sugar and salt are hidden
in many foods we purchase at grocery stores and at restaurants. Also you
should not eat too much pasta as your body can convert this into sugar.
For most people just stopping all the cakes, candy, ice cream, pies, cookies,
etc is a tough job and where you need to focus.
We also do not like the idea of sugar-free sweet foods, ones that use sugar
substitutes. These products perpetuate the desire for something sweet, and
do not help us learn healthier eating habits. You need to learn how not to
carve sugar. About 21% of calories consumed by the average person in the USA come from sugar.
A healthy goal for sugar consumption is 8% of calories coming from sugar.
This is made more difficult by all the hidden sources of sugar in our diets.
So you need to read the labels carefully of every food product you consume.
There is no established recommended daily allowance for sugar, most people have
no idea of their sugar intake. Who has time to read the label on every
bottle of ketchup you purchase. Now you need to try, and make a list of
low or no sugar added products and just buy these low or no sugar added products
on a regular basis. Never drink soda again. Try unsweetened ice tea
or water.
Do you have a high sugar level problem?
